How does chiropractic help?

This is such an important question that so many people are missing an answer to. So often people only focus on utilizing chiropractors for their back or neck pain relief. More often than not, individuals are not educated on the true benefits of chiropractic care and the role it plays in allowing an individual to function as their most optimal selves.

In today’s society, it is all too easy to turn to some kind of over the counter or prescription medication for the symptoms many of us experience in the daily lives that we may consider as normal. Medications, whether they be for pain, allergies, blood pressure, ADHD, etc, only mask the symptoms one is experiencing. We do not experience symptoms because we lack a synthetic pill in our body, there is an underlying cause that must be addressed and that is where a Chiropractor must focus his attention.

I didn’t hear a sound. Does that mean the adjustment didn’t work?

This is a question commonly asked in a chiropractor's office. The goal of an adjustment is not to create a “popping” sound but rather to correct the position of vertebrae in order to remove nerve interference and restore proper function to the body.

An adjustment is a very specific action and sometimes does create a sound in the process and sometimes it does not. However, neither the occurrence or absence of an adjustment signifies whether the adjustment was accomplished. The chiropractor can post check the segment with proper motion and instrumentation to provide (both subjective) objective evidence that the malposition has been corrected.

Does insurance cover chiropractic visits?

Two Sparrows Family Chiropractic & Wellness is a private pay practice we do not work with insurance directly. We are however able to provide what is called a superbill which serves as a receipt of care that the individual may submit to their insurance and get reimbursed directly.

How safe is chiropractic?

Is chiropractic safe while I'm pregnant?

Yes, chiropractic care is very safe during pregnancy and highly recommended. It is important to have regular chiropractic care and check-ups during pregnancy not only for the benefit and comfort of the mother but for the baby as well.

Chiropractic care can aid in alleviating the aches and pains for mothers during the course of pregnancy but may also aid in proper positioning of the child in the womb to better allow for a safer and more comfortable delivery.

Can I become addicted to chiropractic adjustments?

It's not a matter of being addicted to Chiropractic. People most often as they continue through care can see and feel the change in their everyday lives. Experiencing more energy, sleeping more sound, getting sick less often, and the list goes on. People seek continual care because they can recognize the benefits and want to continue to experience life to its fullest potential.

Is chiropractic safe for children?

Yes, it is. Throughout the course of our lives, we are exposed to traumas starting with one of the most traumatic experiences of childbirth. These traumas inevitably have an effect on our nervous systems and therefore our development.

A well-adjusted child grows into a healthy adult. Chiropractic care for children has been shown to help with ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, colic, restlessness, sleep cycle, overall mood, and increased immunity.

How much schooling does a chiropractor have?

A chiropractor's education very much mirrors that of an MD both in time and basic sciences reviewed. In the end, a chiropractor's education will focus more on anatomy, physiology, and more specifically the nervous system whereas an MD will focus on toxicology and pharmacology.

Throughout the course of chiropractic education, a student must have a minimum of 4200 hours spent with their staff and 1,000 hours of fully supervised clinical training as they care both for other students and individuals from the community.

Can I see a chiropractor if I've had back surgery?

If you’ve had back surgery you should be seeing a chiropractor. Our spines play pivotal roles in proper motion and absorption of everyday forces. In so many cases when it comes to back surgeries an individual will have a number of their vertebrae fused, impeding proper motion of the spine.

Did you know that 90% of the nutrients to your brain is from the proper motion of the spine? It’s important to have your spine checked regularly to ensure that you’re adapting properly.

How long will it take to work?

This answer is different for everyone. As each one of us is different from the other, every individual deserves care that is specifically tailored to them and where they are in their health journey. Some individuals may be experiencing a simple issue that may be simpler to correct where another may present with more complex spinal issues that require more extensive care.

In any case, it is always most important to visit a chiropractor as soon as any issues become present; it is better to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to our health.
